Collaborative, small group learning engages students in groups of about 2-6 students with a learning experience where the initial parameters are often defined by the instructor.
When using collaborative, small group learning with your students consider the following:
- What are you procedures for students on how they will behave and act when they are in their small groups.
- Identify how your students will get into small groups.
- Where will students work on their learning experience?
- What materials, if any do students need for their learning activity?
- What products will students have completed when they are done?
- Will students be assigned specific roles?
Examples of collaborative, small group learning include but are not limited to:
- Think-Pair-Share
- Jigsaws
- Numbered Heads Together
- Roundtables
- Discussions
